Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are curious and eager to learn. They have faced challenges throughout the school year, beginning with Hurricane Harvey in August, and often present challenging behavior as a method for coping with the stress in their daily lives.

Facing extreme circumstances outside of the classroom requires a safe and engaging space when they are at school, beginning with a teacher equipped with several methods of handling unwanted behavior and established rules and routines.

Structure and routine will help these students reach their full academic potential in the classroom.

My Project

These two courses offered by Stanford will enhance my understanding of Math and increase the likelihood that my students apply the principles of thinking more about Mathematical Ideas and less about rules and formulas. The better I can understand Mathematical principles through various strategies, the better I can teach them to my students and lead to breakthroughs in understanding. I have taken this course as if I were a student, which is a free option through Stanford, and was very impressed with how much thought and reasoning is involved in Math. Concepts I struggle with, still as an adult, were much easier to understand after watching the professor and her students explain concepts. I plan to include the course videos in our classroom to help the students improve their understanding of their ability.
