My Project

Students need to be in the right mindset for learning.

By applying point values and a reward system, students can combine mathematical skills and financial learning into social emotional progress.

The items listed will combine to both incentivize students as well as give them access to items needed to get toward their ideal mindset for learning. Sand timers are an excellent tool to monitor students who are losing their focus or simply need a mental break. Students will grow to understand themselves and pick the timer that pertains to how long they think they need to refocus. The calming kit will work hand-in-hand with their break. These are tools they can use to help themselves while stepping away for the duration of their choice. The camera and the film selected will enable me to take real-time photographs of the students throughout the year to create creative ways for them to see themselves as we work through procedures. Students can move their photograph to indicate where they are in a given moment. If they are on a break they move their card to indicate such. These will also be used procedurally around the classroom. This can be used for prizes, students can track and monitor their credits received for various reasons at a board with their photo that asks students to do the math to continue monitoring their total allotment. Then, when they spend their points, again, they will have to do the math first to see what they can afford, how they want to spend it and how much they have left.

Instead of simply giving students a break or a prize, we can expand on that and give them the tools necessary to increase their financial and mathematical understanding, skills they will apply in the real world one
