Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Which strategy is more engaging to students learning math: grasping concepts of three dimensional shapes through reading a text book or physically manipulating objects that create cubes, pyramids, and prisms?

Our students are an energetic bunch with a passion for life and a curiosity for learning.

Our school follows an inclusive model, and is open to all learners, so we have a very diverse community. This includes students who have special needs, English Language Learners, and students who are gifted. Math manipulative are beneficial to all learners.

My Project

Using manipulatives is a great way to make the higher-level math students are learning more tangible and relatable. We notice that students can make a better connection between the real world and what they learn in school through project-based learning. In math, having these visuals and models will build a bridge with the real world and foster further growth and learning. The specific manipulatives I requested encompass multiple facets of math and will allow students to reinforce and better comprehend multiple math skills. The magnetic manipulatives will allow students to touch and manipulation geometric solids and fractions. The fraction/decimal/percentage circles will help students see the connection between these concepts as well as assist them in understanding concepts such as equivalency and ordering fractions. All these items can be used by an upper-elementary classroom.

This project will support all students, especially those who are visual or tactile learners.

With these tools, we can foster students' passion and curiosity for math and support them in becoming lifelong lovers of the subject!
