Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a K–8 Title I school. We have a very hardworking staff that is dedicated to helping our students reach their potential academically. I love to see our students to be able to sit in a small group where they have the opportunity to communicate, analyze and evaluate their mathematical thinking and strategies with one another. Our students are willing to be challenged and to learn from each other. Besides the academic side, they are also very creative, talented and great athletes.

My Project

Your donations to our project will help build the conceptual understanding of fractions and decimals. Many of our students struggle with understanding what a fraction represents. With the magnetic apple fractions, the students will make the connections between a whole and part. It will also help with understanding equivalent fractions. Developing and building a child's number sense cannot happen without the use of number lines. The number lines can be made with whole numbers, fractions, or decimals to show the understanding of parts of a whole. Students need to be able to break a whole number apart into equal groups, and a number line is the best visual to use. The decimal dice are a great addition to use for a hands-on tool to use as a learning support.
