Help me give my students the opportunity to see that there isn't just ONE way to do math by providing them with tools to cultivate and nourish a love of math that most of us never had.
Our learning space is rooted in diversity, equity and inclusion. I want to give every learner the chance to be successful; and that means knowing not just how the child learns, but what each child needs. One of my biggest goals this year is to encourage mathematical thinking and to disrupt the idea that math isn't for everyone.
It's important to me that a learning space is set up with all tools readily available to whoever needs them at whatever time, and not just tucked away to be pulled out at 'math time'.
When our community is engaging in problem-solving, you'll see multiple strategies being used and everyone's voice uplifted. Through the use of manipulatives, such as clocks, fraction blocks, hundreds boards, and more, everyone has the chance to find what works best for their own mathematical thinking.
