My Students

We’re a Title 1 school in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn and 100% of our student population receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students live in the surrounding housing projects and some are in shelters. Despite their circumstances, students come to school everyday, because they know they will be safe and supported, and while many come in well below academic standards, the encouragement and exposure to multiple points of entry for success pushes them to believe in their abilities and capabilities.

My Project

Remember sitting in math class with 20 problems to complete, using the procedure you were told to memorize, and the only sharing you did was sharing your answers not your process. Well this is the 21st century and answers are not enough. When students can teach a skill and explain their process, we know that they have mastered that skill.

Through the use of these six touchscreen Chromebooks, my students will be able to show and explain their thinking by creating math screencasts using an assortment of screencast apps like ShowMe.

My students already love it when they have the spotlight on them to share their thinking using pencil and paper. Why not have them use the technology available to motivate them to take ownership of their work and become digital math teachers for their peers.
