Math Storage-Controlled Chaos in K

My Project

We just received a fabulous play-based learning math curriculum this previous school year. While we love the mode of learning and rich opportunities for students to manipulate items to enhance their understanding, it has left us with disorganized bins scattered around the room. Not only does this makes materials inaccessible to children during free play, but it makes for long nights and weekends of organizing and sorting and digging up the week's materials.

My goal is to organize all of our manipulatives by type and then color so as to make our lessons come together easier and reach more and more students.

Students will also be able to quickly engage in cleaning up the materials as well. This will save us time over all. It will also give children opportunities to take on responsibilities for cleaning up and organizing items. As kindergarteners, it can be difficult to organize and clean up, but sorted compartments will easily be accessable to any child's level. With these bins, I will be able to give my students a sense of ownership and community, of responsibility and excitement.
