This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Welcome to my classroom! I am a 7th-year District 75 Special Education Elementary teacher who will be teaching an 8:1:1 3rd-5th grade class this year. My student population ranges from students who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other students who have Intellectual Disabilities. My students are very creative and eager to learn. I strongly believe in hands-on learning. We use a variety of tools because our students need 1:1 support and hands-on materials to learn. This being my 7th year of teaching I have learned how important it is for students to have tools for learning and have seen how the lack of necessary learning materials can affect my student's success.

We are located in a low-income, high-needs area where these materials will make a big difference in the way my students learn and achieve their goals.

Most of my students have been remote for over a year now and I want to make sure that they have all of the materials they need to succeed this year. I want to make sure that our classroom environment fits the individual needs of all of my students while creating a trusting and safe space for them to learn.

My Project

Math is something we use in our everyday lives. Without math, we really couldn't perform daily activities such as telling time or even knowing the price of our groceries. The math manipulatives I am requesting will help to support my students when learning these concepts. These manipulatives will be used every day in the classroom and at home. The requested whiteboards will allow me to see exactly what my students are doing while in small groups. It allows them to work out a problem, or write an answer without using the conventional paper which can feel like work. The whiteboards will allow students independence and also a sense of fun while learning. With the use of the individual caddy's, the students will have a supply of necessary tools for learning such as pencils, crayons, markers, manipulatives, and other tools used daily for learning that are easily accessible to them only and tailored to their individual needs. This will benefit the students by not sharing these daily materials due to the COVID 19 social distancing guidelines.

The success of my students is what I am striving for and after 18 months, of remote learning, I am willing to try every method that may help our students on their learning journeys, be reacclimated back into the classroom setting once again, and by donating you will help to increase my student's academic achievement.
