This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Math comes naturally to most children. Making what they know work for them in learning new concepts leads to success.

I have a class of 31 kindergarteners from a program improvement school in California.

These families want their children to go further in education than they have. Education is valued. Academic explanations at home are limited. Families can follow through on what is being taught in class as long as the lessons are comprehensible by my students and their families.

My Project

We have kindergarteners work in small groups manipulating a variety of math materials to strengthen their understanding of math concepts. All 7 strands of math must be taught at all grade levels. These manipulative materials make math concrete. Concrete understanding leads to success.

Math education will produce the next generation of thinkers like Steve Jobs.

Manipulating materials will take their understanding to the next level, the one where they exceed expectations.
