Research has proven time and again that the more a child is immersed in literature, the more proficient they become at reading. As a teacher of students in 3rd-5th grade with Learning Disabilities, I am constantly working to provide a rich literacy base for my students. These students are all between 2 and 4 grade levels behind their peers, and struggle in all areas. Our school is in a small community and many of my students are on free or reduced lunch plans.
It's quite a challenge to provide quality read alouds for students and to meet content standards at the same time. With more budget restraints and less outside funding availability, things like special books are out of the question.
If I had this collection of read alouds I would be able to integrate reading, listening, and conversation into our math. Having this collection of books would provide my students with opportunities to combine a love for reading and an understanding of math.
Your donation will make it possible for me to provide content rich read aloud opportunities to my students. This project is an important opportunity for our class.
