My Project

My students love to talk and make videos and what better way to increase their classroom engagement in math than to incorporate their social interests into their learning!

This project aims to provide students with materials that takes math from a perceived difficult, abstract concept to engaging, relatable content that fosters higher order thinking.

The headphones will be used as learning tools when students are engaging independently or in stations and group activities as they explore materials to gain a deeper understanding of math content. They will also be used as input devices when students demonstrate conceptual understanding through the production of artifacts such as video and audios.

Paper and Pencils are basic tools used in the daily learning process as students show work, draft ideas, illustrate their thinking and create graphic organizers to explain processes in flip charts. The large easel sheets and markers are ideal for posting students' work, processes and ideas for all to see as they work collaboratively to solve math problems and add a touch of color for emphasis!

When students are given the opportunity to explore learning in unconventional ways and through multiple representations, it builds the confidence they need to approach higher order thinking problems. This projects aims to provide students with materials that allow them to explore math in a collaborative learning environment where they can create products, critically evaluate the work of others and provide meaningful feedback. Having students talk about the math and talk through their processes help them to make connections to contextual problems thereby helping them increase their depth of understanding and knowledge in math.
