Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from an inner city. We are a title one school, which means that 98% of our children are on free and reduced lunch. The majority of my students are ESOL, so English is not their first language. I also have a few ESE (exceptional student education), who are visual and tactile learners.

My third grade class is a diverse group of students who are excited to learn in a welcoming environment.

This school year, I am fortunate to teach 45 effervescent students.

My Project

We are currently in need of a new class rug. Our current rug is too small, uninviting, and uncomfortable for students. We use the carpet throughout the day in the classroom library. You will often find students snuggled up with a good book, doing Reflexmath on their iPads, or working on a small group project. A bright colorful rug will be inviting to my young students. With the addition of a new rug in our class, every child can have his/her own space during center time. It would make our classroom library a welcoming, comfortable, and interactive learning environment.

The lively colors on the new math rug will energize our classroom and inspire creativity.

The rug I am requesting is math inspired; as a result, it will also allow students the opportunity to practice their multiplication and division fact in a fun way. The soft carpet will also encourage students to utilize the reading space while they enjoy a good book.
