This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Loving, caring, passionate about learning...these are just a few words that describe my amazing fourth graders. These children have a passion for life and a love for the world they live in. They are always first to lend a hand or encourage a classmate.
At first glance you would never guess the struggles these students have been through.
All of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch, and many even get weekend food supplies sent home. Many come from single parent homes, or even a two parent home where mom and dad are working 2-3 jobs to make ends meet. They help take care of younger siblings and cousins. These students are way more than your average fourth grader.
My Project
My students are struggling in math this year. Most of them are 2-3 grade levels behind in proficiency, and lack independence and confidence to tackle fourth grade standards because they have not mastered the previous standards. Due to this, math can be frustrating for many of them. Despite this, they love doing guided math and meeting in small groups, so they can learn at their level.
I want to engage my students in their learning by giving them activities and choices that excite them.
The Math Instant Learning Centers and the Discover Cans for different standards will help my students build their confidence across all areas of math. Additionally, these activities will help my students work together and learn together in fun, creative ways.
