Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics."~ Paul Halmos. This is a quote I firmly believe in as a third grade math teacher.

I teach a wonderful group of students at a Title 1 school.

Over 64% of the students are Hispanic and learning the English language. My students are eager to learn new things and want to be successful, especially in Math. Due to the language barrier and other factors, most of my students are not currently working on their grade level. They do not have the necessary prior knowledge or materials at home and have sadly fallen behind.

My Project

My classroom is set up to teach the students in a small group setting. These items, such as the graphing and place value activities, will be used to teach the skills with a small group based on their needs. My math groups are differentiated, so I will be able to utilize the materials to teach the students on their instructional level. I plan to use the ink cartridges to print additional skill building activities for the students to take home and practice. The geared clocks are a perfect addition as well because they move exactly like a real clock, and will enable my students to build their skills in telling time and understanding elapsed time. All of these resources are crucial for my students' learning of the third grade math skills, and will enable them to relate math to real life experiences.

My students will benefit from your donations.

These energetic third graders will develop their sense of numbers and operations, build their problem solving skills, and hopefully begin to love math like I do! Most of all, I believe that using these materials will help them to build their self confidence by mastering the math skills that they have struggled with in the past. By donating to my project, you will help my students to prepare for the future and become lifelong learners.
