My Students

Entering fifth grade two to three grades levels behind is a huge challenge, but a challenge my students are embracing. My students currently need different ways to interact with math concepts, which is why we are requesting manipulatives, flash cards, multiplication games, and dry erase markers.

My students attend a rural 5th-12th grade school in North Carolina.

Our school is a college preparatory school for students in a traditionally underserved area of our state. My students are passionate about their education, attending school from 8:00am-5:00pm and some Saturdays. Over 75% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and over 80% will be first generation college graduates. My students are fired up about school and work hard daily to climb the mountain to college.

My Project

The items I am requesting will help my students who are 2 to 3 grade levels behind gain mastery of math basics and push my students on grade level to gain a deeper conceptual understanding of what they are learning. Students will be involved in engaging activities to help assess mastery using dry erase boards and markers. Students will gain a conceptual understanding of fractions using the manipulatives. Lastly, students will master their basic multiplication facts with the multiplication chips. Mastering basic facts and having a conceptual understanding of math will help my students this year, in high school, in college, and beyond!

The impact these items will have on my students will be HUGE!

My students will gain confidence as they catch up and surpass grade level. My students have a passion to learn and these items will help students with different learning styles learn in a variety engaging ways. Please help my Math Masters maximize their mastery!
