My Students

My second grade students are eager, inquisitive, and enthusiastic children. They attend a Title 1 school in a suburb of Los Angeles and represent countries from all over the world. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in our area. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Tamil, and Arabic.

As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics.

They are always looking for more ways to be challenged and explore what they have learned. My students love to stay active in the classroom while they are learning new things.

My Project

My second grade students will use these math materials as an effective interactive way to reinforce what they have learned both in groups and independently after learning a new math concept or skill. My students learn best when they are engaged in hands on activities. They love playing games and engaging in conversations about what they are learning. These materials will provide those learning activities for them.

These materials will create math centers for my students to work collaboratively on the math standards they are learning.

After introducing a new math concept, my students will be able to choose a group activity or an independent activity to provide them with additional learning opportunities to better understand the concepts.
