I teach a special day class of students who are in grades 2nd through 5th. Not only do I have 4 different grade levels but my student are all on different levels in all subjects. It is hard for students with special needs to learn the conventional way, they have to be able to see it, hear it, and touch it in order to understand the concept being taught.

All my students learn in many different ways. There is no clear cut way of teaching them except to provide every avenue that will help them to understand the concept. The easiest way for them is to see it, touch it, hear it.

Using the overhead projector my students think that it is a movie so naturally they are interested. I am asking for various overheads on decimals, fractions, and place value. Seeing things bigger than life helps them make connections to concept being taught. If they are able to touch it others will be able to make connections. Additionally, a few games will be used as incentives. Not only will they get to play, but they will learn something in the process!
