My Students

A typical day in my classroom requires a ton of movement, pictures, manipulatives, hands-on learning, and as much book reading as possible! My goal by the end of the year is for every student to feel confident in the challenge of moving through their educational career.

I work with at-risk, low-income students.

Although they come from a rough upbringing, I completely admire every single one of them for coming to school with a smile on their face. We have become a family, so when someone is having a bad day, we commit ourselves to making their day a little brighter. As a teacher of this group, my job is not only to expand their brains, but also instill positive social skills, which we have to keep working on every day.

My Project

My students this year have completely excelled at math. I love their interest in the subject and would like to give them every way to explore math concepts. With a ton of different manipulatives, math becomes completely interactive and so much more fun! I have included pattern blocks to dive into creating patterns and seeing how different shapes can be put together to construct new shapes. Counters and cubes are perfect for building up our fact fluency by being able to physically count and see the various ways to make a sum. I also can't wait to use the white board with magnetic pieces because my students love to come up to the board to show off their skills!

Right now, I have a few manipulatives, but my resources are very limited.

Having the opportunity to teach interactive math lessons where the students can explore the skill on their own will definitely bring more to the lessons and concepts that I introduce. Children in this age group learn better when they can interact with hands-on manipulatives and work with each other to figure out answers.
