My students come from many different backgrounds, speak multiple languages, and have many different needs in the classroom. They need math manipulatives to continue their learning, but our low income families can not afford to purchase them.
My students are extremely eager learners who want to explore the world.
They thirst for knowledge beyond their textbooks and beyond their lives. Our school is extremely high poverty and materials are lacking. Many of our families cannot afford the extras that make a difference in a child's education. For this reason, we need help purchasing math accessories.
My Project
My students have high aspirations. They want to be engineers, astronauts, teachers, soldiers, and yes--football players. They know that to move themselves out of the poverty they live in they have to catch up to peers with more advantages.
My kids know they need help, and they want to learn, but they currently don't have the tools to be successful.
Most of my students' families don't have access to technology at home and can't afford to purchase items like flash cards or extra workbooks. Our school is in a high poverty, low income area so we struggle to purchase these materials as well. These wrap up math fact keys and dice are a fun and effective way for kids to learn basic foundational math skills that will propel them forward to reach their goals.
