Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you know the feeling of battling something you feel you can never win? My students struggle with basic math computations and are in need to hands-on manipulatives to gain a deeper understanding of what's happening with numbers.

My school is part of a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools with a track record of preparing students in under-served communities for success in college and in life.

In this part of Texas, I teach about 80 girls who are on their path to college. Ninety percent of them are from low-income households, but they don't let that barrier interfere with their dream. They have curiosity, integrity, self-respect, and a great amount of persistence!

My Project

Girls are known for learning by doing and seeing. Math manipulatives are a very helpful way for students to understand concepts at a deeper level. As the students are getting older, math concepts become much more abstract, so understanding and visualizing what is happening is difficult. Having the materials to "play" with and manipulate is very likely to allow these young ladies feel more success at this difficult subject.

Although your donation may seem minuscule to you, it will have an unbelievable impact on these young ladies' lives.

You have the power to help make the females of the future amazing, confident, well-educated, mathematically-minded women!
