My students need 200 warm-up problems, folder games for 10 different math concepts and Smath (a review game with operations) to learn important math concepts as well as a wind chime for classroom management.

My Students

My students are active learners! They do not enjoy sitting at a desk taking notes all day, but who does?! It can sometimes seem like a daunting task to keep them engaged in learning. By getting more interactive math materials, my students will be actively engaged in their learning!

This year, we will have both 4th and 5th grade students!

I am eager to be teaching gifted math and science for the first time. The students come from a variety of backgrounds as we are a Gifted Zone Center. Each student is eager to come to school to expand their minds, while their parents work hard to support them. Since we are a Gifted Zone Center, there are a variety of students in my classroom, those with individualized education plans, second language learners, and families who are supported through a variety of programs. The school also recently became a Title 1 school.

My Project

By making a donation to Math Mania, my students will have a variety of resources to use during math class. They will be able to tackle rigorous word problems that can seem scary to 9-11 year-old children. The word problems will also allow them to build their fluency and stamina. Some students understand the math concepts, but get lost in the wording of problems on standardized tests. These materials will allow my students more exposure on how to tackle both the reading and mathematics concepts with each problem. The folder games give students an opportunity to get up, move around, and work with a variety of people. Therefore, they are working on their math skills while also learning how to work in a group setting. This is so important as they are becoming more independent learners and thinkers with middle school quickly approaching! The chime will allow me to quickly get each students' attention at any point during the day, so we can easily transition to the next activity.

Your donation will allow my students more opportunities to be exposed to rigorous math word problems and concepts, so when they get to the state test both the reading and math will be a piece of cake!

Each of these materials will also help them prepare to be independent thinkers as they are preparing for middle school!
