This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a fun-loving, eager group of 6 and 7-year-olds. They were fully remote last year and are returning to the classroom. Most of my students are English Language Learners where English is not spoken in the home. My school is a Title I school.
My Project
My second graders are emerging readers who will be experiencing a wide array of books in my classroom. While fiction, non-fiction, and author study books are important, I want my students to know that books can be about other subjects too! So many students see math as numbers in isolation and I think reading about math concepts in literature will help them see how math exists in the world - the fantasy world as well as the real world. These books will give them the opportunity to see math and literature converge.
