My Students

Our active and inquisitive first graders love learning. They are most fired up when the learning is combined with fun! Six year-old students really love math games and activities. I'm really excited when I hear all my students say, "We love math!"

Our classroom is a general education first grade in a New York City public school.

Our students have a wide range of learning styles and abilities that require a variety of teaching approaches. These six year olds come to school every day with a great deal of enthusiasm and curiosity about their world that makes them natural learners.

My Project

With a color printer, ink, paper, and spinners we will be able to create and make a variety of math games and activities that will provide fun practice to reinforce the skills the students are learning. Games are helpful in supporting differentiation in the classroom, tapping into individual learning styles, and making learning engaging. The materials will also provide an opportunity for students to create their own math games. Additionally, games promote cooperation and sportsmanship among students.

The students in my class will have a variety of materials, that have been created for their specific learning styles, that will not only enhance their math skills, but make it fun as well.

The goal is for my students to develop a love of learning that will carry through in their future as well. Hopefully, they will continue to "love math!"
