My Students

I am a fairly new teacher and despite the challenges we have faced the past couple years, I feel that teaching it still one of the most important and rewarding professions.

I love my student's positive attitudes and their excitement to learn.

They are brave, curious, hard working, and want to be successful in all that they do. I have students from all different socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, nuclear families, and personal circumstances. I have a chatty class this year but I love all their questions, excitement to be together, socialize, and learn.

It is my distinct honor to be able to teach 6th grade and help these students become the best people they can be. I am so proud of all my students and I love teaching 6th grade.

My Project

As the primary math teacher for our 6th grade, I find that using a variety of methods to show how math works, helps students to better understand each new math concept. I also feel that when we explore, create, discuss, and interact, we learn more and retain information longer. To help students overcome the trials of Covid-19, we need to be interactive.

Math is more than just numbers, it is the process of learning to solve problems and create solutions.

Students that are effective problem solvers will be able to succeed in a variety of areas. I want math to be fun, but as a new teacher I do not have a lot of resources to create variety.

Building bricks can be used to show area, volume, perimeter, fractions, and basic operations.

White boards with grid lines make teaching and learning division, the coordinate plane, and multi step-equations easier.

Sticky notes and correction tape help students take notes, make corrections, and visually build and see arrays, graphs, and tables. I also use sticky notes for mini quizzes and exit tickets.

A printer would help me to bring color and life to the worksheets and anchor charts that we use to practice.
