My Students

Remember how math was dry and boring. It was just listening to lectures, crunching formulas and numbers. Math in our classroom is anything but boring. Students are engaged in discovering and creating. Each month they apply their knowledge and construct projects for the entire school to see.

I have the best 7th grade students in New York City.

My students are gifted and talented. Most of them do not have money but they are smart. With good grades and scholarships I am positive they will be our future doctors, lawyers, politicians, teachers, engineers etc. They all possess leadership qualities which is evident when they work cooperatively. They look forward to presenting their finished projects each month.

My Project

I have requested basic supplies for my students. If my students have markers, staplers, tape, glue sticks, construction paper available that would foster their creative skills, they would have a plentiful supply to last them for the school year. For example last year we worked on an integrated project with humanities that we will do again this year. Students created a breakfast cereal named after one of the 13 colonies. They constructed rectangular prisms and calculated surface area and volume based on their dimensions. Tape, construction paper, glue, markers are a necessity for this type of project. They also made a commercial to advertise their cereal. As you can see the design of the box and the variety of colors is extremely important to the presentation. Since we do projects like this on a monthly basis supplies always run low and more variety is needed.

I want students to see math as fun, exciting and constructive.

Math is something they can use their imagination on in everyday living. I want students to have a good time creating projects and posters for their school and every visitor in the school. Being attentive to detail is what makes a great math student and some do not always show their skills in computation but in creativity.
