My Students

I reach a group of 12 special education children with varying needs and learning styles. Some of them are verbal and some are minimally verbally and heavily rely on the use of visual boards to express. All of my students love to learn. The one thing common for every student is hands-on learning.

Everyone can learn with hands-on materials, but imagine 12 children and ONLY 1 set, ONLY one game, ONLY one board, ONLY one marker!

The current situation had further defiled the learning and student engagement as a result of lack of resources available to my students. Virtual learning has been a source of anxiety for both my students and their parents who have attempted to help my students attend during a lesson with no available resources.

While I constantly try to create game based learning, it is simply not enough to engage them. With hands-on manipulatives and other materials, they will be able to engage and succeed, what CANNOT be learned with just pencil and paper!

My students do not have hands-on materials and manipulatives available to them to learn difficult concepts like addition, subtraction, telling time, using a number line to count, sequencing numbers and much.

My Project

My students need hands-on materials to learn abstract concepts such as addition, measurement, subtraction, and even simply understanding number concepts. They love to learn, however, unfortunately, most cannot sit in front of computer and engage in online games to learn the concepts. For most, it is hard to attend my online lessons because there is no manipulative or materials they can manipulate, visualize and learn.

My students are visual and kinesthetic learners.

Learning sitting in front of a computer is both daunting and draining, adding more stress to their already disrupted routine since the schools shut down.

With the help of hands-on materials and manipulatives, students will be able to engage in learning, which will in return minimize the constant disruptive behaviors. I love teaching them and seeing them grow even during this unprecedented time. My students love to learn and it is disheartening to see them disengaged and lost.
