My Students

I teach science and math to seventh and eighth graders at a suburban school in Arizona. My students crave knowledge and experiences that make science and math come alive for them. They are bright, talented, and fun.

My students are eager to be successful in school.

They are hungry to learn more about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. They have academic challenges, but they are not afraid to work hard.

My Project

After 15 years of teaching physics, I’ve decided to take my skills and work with students who need extra help in math. My students will be those kids who need one-on-one and small group assistance in math. I’ll work to fill the gaps they have in their math background so that they can become mathematically literate.

The best way for students who have math anxiety to become math literate is to allow them to have a multitude of math successes.

That’s what this project is all about. Hands-on material will not only allow them to build up their basic skills but will allow them to have success after success.

Students who currently have issues with their understanding of math feel that they can’t learn math. With this project, I want to show them that they are wrong.
