My Project

A movable whiteboard would be a powerful tool to support English Language Learners (ELLs) in the math classroom by providing a flexible, visual space for them to communicate their thinking. Many ELL students benefit from visual aids and hands-on opportunities to practice language in context. With a mobile whiteboard, I can bring the learning closer to small groups or individuals, encouraging students to use math vocabulary and sentence frames as they solve problems collaboratively. It allows them to draw diagrams, model equations, and label their thinking, which helps bridge language gaps and build both their math and language skills.

The whiteboard’s mobility means it can travel to different learning zones around the room—whether that’s a quiet corner for one-on-one support or a group station for peer discussions.

Students can take ownership of their learning by writing, erasing, and revising their work in real time. For ELLs, this kind of active participation boosts confidence and encourages language development as they explain their strategies to classmates and teachers. The whiteboard becomes not just a tool, but a stage for students to showcase their understanding, use academic language, and make their thinking visible in a low-stress, interactive way.

What I love most about my students is their resilience, creativity, and eagerness to learn—especially when they’re given the right tools and encouragement. They thrive when they feel heard, supported, and empowered to express themselves. This movable whiteboard will give all students, especially ELLs, a chance to shine by making learning more accessible, collaborative, and engaging. Every resource that fosters communication and confidence helps my students grow—not only as mathematicians but as thinkers and communicators ready to take on the world.
