My Students

Math can get old quickly when you use the same, old books and worksheets all the time. Math isn't always their favorite subject and they can struggle to find the real world application. Scholastic Magazine will help them have more fun with math!

I teach Special Education math to students in an urban school district in Indiana.

Many of my students have severe behavior problems and the best way to help them learn is through intense engagement. They need many different methods of learning to ensure they are having fun and getting involved. They struggle to work independently, but are much more successful when they love their assignment. My students deserve so many more learning opportunities beyond books and worksheets.

My Project

My students don't see newspapers and magazines at home, so the opportunity to read Scholastic Math Magazine will give them an opportunity to read a periodical, as well as practice their math skills. It will be a double win for them! Articles about texting that involve math?! How about articles involving chocolate? These are much more exciting options for my students to work on! Scholastic Math will help my students see how important math is to their daily lives and that learning these skills now will help them be successful in the future.

My students have so much potential, but often don't see it in themselves.

But, they are so excited when they learn something new and are successful! Finding ways to ensure they gain the math skills they need is the most important part of my job. My students deserve to have fun while they learn!!
