Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a low income school, but we are exceptional in every way. This is our second year with 7 Star Distinction that only four other schools have to earn in Houston Independent School District, which is comprised of 300 schools. Our school was given an A rating by the Houston Chronicle for our success with serving low income student in the Houston area. This shows the dedication that my students have to achieve success in their lives.

I have been able to have 90% of my students to become successful on the 8th grade Math STAAR test despite what other may consider a bad stacked hand.

Most schools in my district have only around 60% pass the 8th grade Math STAAR test. My students been able to overcome low income families, extreme family issues, and negative influences every day. I know that my students want the best for themselves; therefore, I put my best foot forward every day. Hopefully, everyone is able to see that I teach a exceptionable set of students and they need the best education available.

My Project

I think that all of my students need the ability to have the items readily available to them in the classroom to make learning fun and easy. I have found that when my students enjoy class that they learn and retain the information.

The Association Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) has reinforced my belief that having students engaged in group activities will allow them to become more skilled in the information that is being presented.

I will use the 4 computers in centers as well for activities that the students need technology to gain the most from the activity. I can use the graph paper and marker to allow my students to work in small groups and discover the learning.
