I am a third grade teacher at PS 169 in Brooklyn, New York. This school is located in a lower socio-economic community where 93% of the children receive free breakfast and lunch every day. Many of the children are English Language Learners and their parents do not speak English at all. The only place these children learn the language is in school. Two years ago, in my school, the principal allotted 40 minutes every day to something called "Special Time". During this time, each teacher would receive an out of classroom teacher to come in to the classroom and assist us with math games. Our math curriculum focuses on allowing time every day for math games. This was a wonderful opportunity to make learning fun for the children as well as offer assistance to the students who may be struggling in a certain math area. Since there are two teachers in the classroom during this time, these children received more individualized attention and their area of weakness was targeted. Towards the end of the school year, the only problem was the children got bored playing the same games over and over. I do not have an overwhelming amount of math games in my classroom. I tried to be as creative as possible and make up my own games. This worked for a while but it would be really great if I could receive some new math games to use with my class this year. Obviously, math is very important in my school and taken very seriously. Playing these games really helped my children succeed last year. I know it would make a big difference this year and help my year go a lot smoother. Lakeshore offers a variety of different math games ranging in all different topics. These games would be used almost every day. Thank you for your consideration.
