Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in an I.C.T. classroom in the Bronx. In this classroom setting, both general education students and special education students learn together and from each other. Many of my students have learning disabilities, autism or speech and language impairments.

My students are faced with hardships everyday; yet, they come to school eager to learn.

Despite obstacles put in their way, my students strive to reach their potential. School is their safe haven where I strive to provide them with all the knowledge I can, with the resources that are available to me.

My Project

For my special needs students, math is most enjoyed when it is a hands-on and interactive experience. Having a variety of math games will be a fun, educational experience for my students. Students see practicing their math skills in their workbooks as a monotonous task. They love being able to participate in math centers. Having a variety of math games in the classroom will promote critical thinking and educational conversations among my students. They will enjoy working at centers and will be more willing to persevere through challenging tasks.

My special education students need more visuals and engaging materials than their peers.

Many of my students struggle focusing on tasks unless they are interested in them. Math games will bring a feeling of excitement to my classroom. My students will be willing to challenge themselves and practice math skills at these centers. A love of math will grow in their hearts.
