Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is my first year teaching 5th grade. I teach an ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) class of 24 students. My students are hard-working and love learning. They are sweet and extremely helpful. I love that they always want to do their best and succeed even when the work seems difficult.

This year they are being encouraged to endure in productive struggle and explain their mathematical thinking.

They are eager to share their strategies and thinking with the class. They have shown a great interest in math this year.

My Project

This is the first year our school has become an Algebra for All school. This is an initiative that prepares students for Algebra I in High School. Students explore mathematical concepts and think algebraically rather than just arithmetically. Students often work in groups to discuss and solve problems. They also are encouraged to solve problems a variety of ways. The chart paper will be very useful so that students can express their thinking and it can be hung in the classroom for others to reference. Students will also use the whiteboards and dry erase markers to show their work.
