My Students

Everyone knows that math is better learned if you are engaged with manipulative's! These kits will allow me to facilitate small groups while the rest of my class is practicing the common core cards and games that enhance their understanding of the curriculum by working in pairs or individually.

I teach a multi-age class of first and second graders that are on many different academic levels.

The school is right outside an Air Force base in NC so half of my kids are military and half are from inner city or out of district. I spend two years with these kids fostering a family oriented classroom with parents volunteering regularly. Our school is over 50 years old and looks run down but the education these kids get is top notch with lots of parental involvement throughout the school. The kids are eager to learn and smart and will benefit from these kits because they will know how to use them. The parents that volunteer will have a great format to follow using the directions and tools from the kits. I am very excited about the common core and this will allow me and my team teachers to have the right materials to teach it successfully.

My Project

Imagine you volunteering in a classroom with ages 6 to 8 and the teacher asks you to work with a small group teaching them how to do a particular concept in math for remediation or enrichment. Does this make you nervous? Well, with these learning kits it would be so much easier because you have directions and manipulative's to give you direction. With the new common core most of our focus is learning the language arts and I do not want my kids to lack in the area of math. These kits can be used individually or in small groups and with both levels it gives my multi-age kids a big range to remediate or enrich them.

The common core is confusing ....please make it easy for me, my kids and my volunteers to enhance the learning of my students by giving them all the tools necessary to be successful.
