Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach math in a dual-language program at a Title I middle school in New Mexico. My students take half their classes in English (including mine) and half in Spanish. Many are English Language Learners, meaning they have not yet met proficiency requirements in English.

I would like to have math content posters around the room that include key math terms and phrases, which will be especially helpful for English Language Learners.

My Project

I am going into my fifth year of teaching and third as a 7th grade math teacher, but I have never purchased nor been given content-specific classroom materials for math.

These posters are for students to be able to reference math content in a fun and memorable way.

I am also looking to add some character-building encouragement to my walls, as math is a challenging subject for many children.

I am also getting new whiteboards and dry erase number lines that include negatives. Adding and subtracting into the negatives is a huge standard for 7th grade, and some students prefer physical number lines as opposed to just online resources.
