My Students
First grade math...is NOT about working out of a textbook, completing endless worksheets, or listening to the teacher lecture. First grade math...IS about having fun, participating in engaging activities, having center time, and using manipulatives to become rock star math students.
My fantastic first graders attend a Title 1, K-8, school that is located in Baltimore City, MD.
These students are fun, energetic, and hard workers who are eager to learn. My students love learning new information by getting their hands on different manipulatives and center games. These students can and will reach their end of the year goal, to be promoted to the second grade, with the use of these manipulatives and centers.
My Project
These math center activities I have requested will provide my students with much needed math resources. Math manipulatives and centers provide a hands-on learning experience where students retain the information they learn. Math can be quite boring and repetitive with the teacher just lecturing and the students completing worksheets. These activities reinforce what has been previously taught, and will provide the opportunity for students to practice taking turns, working together, and using their knowledge in fun and engaging ways.
Resources are very minimal when you attend a public, Title 1 school, and any support to donate to this project is greatly appreciated.
Without these resources my students will not reach their full potential that they all can achieve throughout this year. These manipulatives and center activities make my students excited and want to learn more, and this is what teaching is all about.
