Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, my incoming kindergarteners are facing many unknowns as they begin their first school experience. My school is a Title One school and the majority of my students are English Language Learners. With Covid, parents have difficulty getting their children the necessities, much less the tools they need for their education. Considering the circumstances, I need to adapt my teaching in order to give them the rich experience they deserve and provide them what they need.

My Project

Manipulatives are an integral part of foundational mathematics. Usually students share manipulatives, but this year that will not be a safe option. I would like to give each of my kindergarten students a set of manipulatives that they can use independently at school, as well as at home for remote learning days. No matter the circumstances, students still need learning to be hands on and engaging!

I have requested enough manipulatives to give each student a bag with 20 cubes, a tens frame and counters, a rekenrek, pattern blocks and a wipe-off board.
