My Students

Teaching math to seventh graders can be a challenge, especially to an all girl class!
Math gets a bad name, but my mission is for my students to learn to appreciate math. My school is part of a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools with a track record of preparing students in under-served communities for success in college and in life.
In this part of Texas, I teach 70 girls who are on the path to college. Ninety percent of them are from low-income households, but they don't let that barrier interfere with their dreams. They have curiosity, integrity, self-respect, and a great amount of persistence!
My Project
A trip to a major league baseball game will be two-fold. Students will have the amazing experience to visit their city and support their home team, while at the same time seeing math skills in action. Students will see statistics used in a real life situations. They will make tons of connections as to how baseball is played compared to all the math they've learned this year.
