This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Basic math concepts can seem too abstract for most students. For my students math is often seen in unrealistic terms. My students attend a Title 1 school and have not been given the opportunities to focus the needed time and attention to basic math concepts.
Third grade at our school is home to a hundred students with a third of them being English Language Learners.
These students have many challenges to face. Due to challenges faced at home and in their past education, they have come to third grade well below grade level in math.
My Project
I am requesting hands-on math tools that will help differentiate and strengthen math skills. From fraction tiles to interactive Smart board games, the third graders will be able to strengthen foundational skills as well as learn that math can be enjoyable. Through math interventions, math centers, and after school tutoring, these math tools will be put to use. It will be the ingredient currently missing in our instruction.
It is important that our third graders have these math tools to succeed in math this year.
Daily use with these tools will increase their math proficiency and create the firm foundation that they need for future math success.
