My students are part of a Spanish Dual Language Immersion program where they learn in Spanish for half of their academic day with me. I teach Math, Social Studies, and Spanish Langauge Arts so every moment with my students is important!
I teach 50 first-graders and they are all eager to learn in a second language!
As a facilitator of growth, I am passionate about enriching my students' learning and understanding. A lot of my instruction requires visuals, representations, and models because, yes, I am teaching in a different language so I am constantly looking for tools to engage my students and expand their comprehension.
My Project
I would love to get instructional materials and STEM manipulatives to use while I am teaching and during small group work. These Math manipulates include small analog-clocks, a class-set of geoboards, and dry-erase fact-family boards. These materials will allow me to deepen my students' understanding with telling time, geometry and the inverse property.
Building and reinforcing math concepts through STEM activities is especially important today.
I am also asking for classroom sets of STEM materials to use during small group math time. These include building blocks, magnetic tiles, and other materials. During one of my stations, students are focused directly on specific skills and are asked to solve problems using materials given to them. This provides the opportunity to apply their learned skills in real-life situations and critically think about their solutions.
