Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This school year, I will be teaching 4th grade math and science. I've never taught these subjects in this grade level, so it will be new. My students have always meant a lot to me and because I worked with these students in first grade, my connection to them is a lot deeper. I've watched many of them learn their letters and sounds, blend them and begin reading. After 2 years I have the pleasure of working with them again and watching them continue to grow.
I believe kids learn by exploring the world around them.
When they're able to make real-world examples and bring it back to the classroom, it creates a deeper understanding. The clipboards will allow them to be able to explore things outside of the classroom and record their findings as they go. The lapboards and rugs will allow them the option of having flexible seating. I've always been big on students being comfortable while their learning and the traditional desk and chairs aren't always the best or most comfortable option.
I am asking for fraction manipulatives, because fractions have been one of the hardest concepts for students to grasp. This has created a huge gap in their learning, and I believe if they have a visual representation that they can manipulate and explore on their own, it will help close some of those gaps.
