Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are inquisitive, curious and motivated to learn!! They come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, bringing with them a wealth of experiences and knowledge that they love to share with others. They learn best through hands-on experiences where they can manipulate objects and make sense of the task through explorations. As the academic year has progressed and I have gotten to know my students better, I am constantly impressed on a daily basis of the ideas they bring with them. Herein lies our work, which is to help them fulfill their potential.

My Project

This year we are using as many manipulatives as possible. Manipulatives allow students to have hands-on, concrete experiences with abstract ideas. Using manipulatives and hands-on experiences adds another level of engagement to my students' learning.

It is by discovery and giving meaning to the work they are learning, will they gain a better understanding and develop a love for learning.

The graph paper will help my students with creating different types of shapes and practice finding area and perimeter. Being that this is fourth grade, my students will also be taking the Science State Test at the end of the year. The graduated cylinders, a set of weights, and the science literature will aid in preparing us for the test, as well as give students firsthand experiences that they can transfer to other content areas and their everyday lives.
