This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am from a high poverty area near the Mexican border. I teach 6th grade math and science and have about 50 kids a day in my class, most needing supplies on a regular basis. We have a very small school population which does not provide us with much funding.

Despite these challenges my students persevere!

They are wonderful 11 and 12 year olds that work very hard to achieve the high goals set forth for them. They come into me not loving math and struggling to find out where they fit. It is my job to provide the best environment I can for them. As a teacher you only want the best for your students and treat them as your own.

My Project

The math and science basics in my project will help students become future mathematicians and scientists. Assisting with this project, will provide my students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of mathematics and science for years to come.

In order to teach engaging and rigorous science labs, basic supplies are necessary!

Unfortunately, the labs require more than can be supplied by our school. Calculators, meter sticks, stop watches, aprons and googles are vital to the success of our math and science labs each day.

These supplies will help make our math and science lab more interactive and engaging. Thank you for all the support; it is greatly appreciated!
