The students that I see each day in my three fifth grade classrooms come from a very small, rural farming town. More than fifty percent of our four hundred students qualify for our free or reduced-price lunch program. We have students from all types of homes from diverse backgrounds.
My students never cease to amaze me with what they can and have overcome.
They are sweet, beautiful souls who deserve my very best, and that is what I strive to give them each and every day.
My Project
It never fails. When students get to my classroom in the fifth grade, the majority of them struggle with learning to multiply and divide, and sometimes even add and subtract, fractions. The problem is their math fluency.
By providing my students with several methods to learn, such as the Show What You Know Math Task Cards and the Building Math Skills Write and Wipe Boards, their fluency will definitely improve.
The Daily Math Practice Journal will help them practice a little bit every single day.
Another goal this year is to help my students become comfortable with the engineering practices that are in our standards. The two STEM kits in my project is a nice way to teach students through play.
