Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my room consists of an overload of frustrated students feeling like they can't do it. I hope by bringing books to life for them, they will find a passion for stories and for learning to read them. My ultimate goal is to create a sense of magic around learning and have them believe they CAN!

My classroom consists of 10 students with special needs and 15 students of mixed English Language Learners and General Education students.

This is a difficult task to meet all the various needs of the students in my room. My school has a very high percentage of poverty level students, many for whom English is not their first language. I'm doing my best to bring them a well rounded education, especially focusing on literacy!

My Project

I would like to allow my students the opportunity to gain control of their learning. The Fairy Tale Problem Solving Kit will help my students learn how stories go in books by acting them out through physical play. I feel this will allow my students to find an inner love of books by bringing them to life through theater. My students' needs are great and they need as much Letter/Sound Recognition support as possible. I believe these materials will help close the gap to their lack of basic foundational skills. They will also enjoy the Read-Alongs, Counting Cars and All About Letters Pocket Chart.

Donations to my project will help foster a student-driven classroom.

It will give students confidence by allowing them to feel ownership over their learning and their environment. My students come broken homes and are often in and out of shelters. Having a real space with the tools needed to guide them in their learning practice and being able to call that space their own to depend on, would give them the drive to want to go on in life and succeed.
