Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first-grade students are a group of wonderful and enthusiastic learners. They live in a low-income area in Southern California and have limited resources to practice reading and writing. The majority of them are English language learners who are curious and eager to learn. Their enthusiasm and smiles inspire me and keep me motivated. We are asking for a laminator, laminating sheets, digital recorders, and notebooks.

A laminator would help me create the necessary resources where students can manipulate letters and sound chips to learn to read and write.

As part of our phonics instruction, we use sound-spelling mats where students learn letter names and sound correspondence. They use the mats to blend sounds into words and to write words and sentences. The notebooks would provide extra writing practice.

As part of our English Language Development instruction, we transcribe students' conversations. With the recorder, it would be easier to capture the essence of the entire conversation when students are practicing their conversation norms.
