Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year with Common Core I would like my students to learn historical reading skills. That comes with learning to read and loving to read. These skills are crucial for my students to master for their high school career. My biggest challenge is getting students to pick up a book and sticking to it.

My 9th graders are very unique this school year!

They came in wanting to go to highly competitive colleges. My seniors this year are all college bound and we need more SAT resource materials to help them for the upcoming October test date. Our school is located in a high poverty area. We have amazing students who benefit from the love and care the school provides them. This past year our graduating class entered top universities and have set the tone for future classes. Our neighborhood and students are changing and it is because our students realize how important education is to their future.

My Project

The books I have chosen deal with real life issues such as immigration and gang violence, something they see in the media. These social issues play a big role in class discussions when we talk about immigration and urbanization. These texts help create dialogue and discussion in our classroom. My seniors would benefit from the SAT prep materials so they can continue to study and challenge themselves for the upcoming test dates. These seniors are amazing college candidates that need an extra set of materials to help them improve their score. We hold college Fridays where students study and take practice tests and we do not have enough materials for everyone. We are in a low income neighborhood and not everyone can afford a study book.

A donation to this project makes our students feel and realize that people from all over the United States care about them and their education.

Some of the students come from low income families and constantly need love and support. Your donation will help students and impact their lives in ways that cannot be described.
