Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are incredibly unique in that they are learning two languages simultaneously. Half of my students are native Mandarin speakers and thus are continuing to build their native language fluency while also learning English. The other half of my students are native English speakers who are your average 1st graders learning how to read and write in English while also learning a second language (Mandarin). Students will spend one day learning all subjects (reading, writing, math, science, and social studies) in Mandarin and then continuing their lessons the following day entirely in English.

My Project

These materials will positively impact my students to build greater independence in their remote learning experience. They will be able to use these materials not only at home, but also in the classroom as they transition to in-school learning.

Having a personal daily learning schedule will allow students to self monitor their school day.

Using a white board and dry erase markers will give students an opportunity to practice spelling strategies, math problems and reading techniques without having to use paper. With each student having access to these materials, I can better plan for small group and one-on-one virtual conferences with students. A personal pencil case will help students to keep their school supplies and materials in one place so it is easily accessible during remote learning.
