Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The materials for this experimental project will be used to support the student's learning of earth, space, and how to grow healthy food. It will support the project-based learning unit on how to grow food in space. Students will research how to go to space, the needs and necessities of growing plants, and how to utilize their knowledge to grow food on Mars. Students will discover NASA how controls rovers from Earth. In teams, students will determine the cost of building a rover using a budget, design their team rover, and have a launch date. After the launch date, the students will develop a plan of vegetables, herbs, and/or food that would survive in space based on their research and evidence.

The students will research and then utilize the printer and science kits in teams to create their terrariums to simulate growing food on Mars.

Teams will create a hypothesis based on their research and develop a plan to grow healthy food that can be sustainable for about a year in space. The books will be used to engage the students at the beginning of the unit and provide background knowledge of how to survive in space. The printer will be utilized to give students research materials that they can annotate and take notes on, as well as provide access to materials in color for their projects and demonstrations.
