My Project

I am currently working in a classroom with 25 students who are mostly newcomers to this country. At the beginning of the school year, I was assigned to run a literacy center during center time to help these young English language learners (ELLs). Four languages are spoken in the classroom, such as Mandarin, Spanish, Russian, and English because my third graders are literate in their first language. As an English language learner, I myself fully understand how important and helpful the first language acquisition is to the second language acquisition.

Therefore, bilingual books and Oxford picture dictionaries are for these young ELLs to keep reading in their first language and to learn English.
